JOB SEARCH STRATEGIES

Job searching is all about marketing the product "you".  There are a number of ways you can get your message out to prospective employers. During this workshop, participants will learn how to market themselves by using the more traditional methods such as answering advertisements placed in newspapers or on the Internet.  As well, they will learn how to conduct a targeted job search and how to network to tap the hidden job market.

WRITING POWERFUL RESUMES & COVER LETTERS

The two most important marketing tools in a job search are the resume and cover letter.  Participants will learn how to write a resume that communicates their unique selling features and captures their special skills, education, abilities and experience. They'll also learn how to create a cover letter that moves a prospective employer to take action.

By the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the basic components of a resume.
  • Write a profile that accurately reflects the participant's value proposition.
  • Write accomplishments as opposed to duties and responsibilities.
  • Write a cover letter that captures the recruiter's attention.

WINNING JOB INTERVIEWS

Participants will learn practical tools and tips to conduct a successful employment interview, thereby increasing their confidence and capability of handling difficult and challenging interview questions.

By the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Develop and implement interview planning strategies and tactics.
  • Respond effectively and confidently to behavioral based interview questions using the STAR technique.
  • Respond to tough interview questions.
  • Plan for and conduct a "winning" employment interview.
  • Develop and implement post interview strategies and tactics.
